PALERMO, SICILY

We have provided resources to help you get to centro citta, and to settle in at your hotel.

Search the Home Page of the Comune di Palermo.

Text Box: The best way to tour Palermo is by foot, taxi or bus. The beauty of Italy is experienced traveling through its varied countryside; music, art, language, culinary art and architecture all express their unique and relative historical cultures of each rich and distinctive region.

To the HOTEL - I recommend staying at the Hotel Politeamo in the center city, because it offers a reasonable price, clean rooms and location. (E-MAIL suggestions.) WALKING TOURS - Outside of the Hotel Politeamo is a long boulevard and piazza. Explore at 6 p.m. when we go out a stroll around after work.

RESTAURANTS - Most open at 8 p.m., so ask the hotel for help before walking out. Always be on the look  out for crazy drivers as you cross streets, it is a fast paced city. Sicily is known for its fresh seafood, so try to find a place where the locals dine, where Swordfish is the specialty.

At the AIRPORT - The best way to reach Palermo downtown is by Public Bus (Auto Linea). Check schedules at the airport. Cost is minimal $5.00 and is a safe, fast ride. The bus is very sufficient, but you need to know exactly where your hotel is and what bus to take. Otherwise a taxi will cost $80, but you can negotiate a fare of $50.00. There is no benefit from the taxi, except one of the wildest rides. Palermo has to be where the early New York taxi drivers and race car drivers learned their trade. Driving in Italy is crazy because there are no rules, just who has the greater will. If you hesitate looking for a turn, someone will pull in front of you.

FESTIVALS - We recommend travelling to Palermo during the Parade of Santa Rosalia, and visiting the many Museums.
