This photo is from the Contessa Entellina cemetery, a beautiful
sacred place overlooking the green pastures of the valley. It is a place
where the birds come to rest, like a bird sanctuary. The one thing you will
notice is the many birds that fly around against the blue skies in this
peaceful village which in itself is hidden in the interior of Sicily
strategically positioned over the valley. It is a stopping place for many
migrating birds which winter in Africa and nest in Europe. The Black Starling, a bird that
lives in Sicily, Spain and Sardinia can be seen in Contessa and Piana degli
