Here is a list of the churches (chiesa) in Contessa Entellina which is the center of community life. The faith of the believers has blessed the community in many ways.

Host of the Annual Festival di Patrona (Ricorrenza della Festa Patronate)

Fu costruita vicino alla Fonte della Favara in cui fu trovata una lastra di pietra con il volto della Madonna.
Inizialmente una chiesetta rurale, dal 1751 al 1771 venne ampliata e abbellita di stucchi. L'interno si presenta a tre navate. L'abside contiene la Vara in legno rivestita in lamine d'oro con la statua di Maria SS. della Favara (1660) ornata nel 1878 da marmi. Nelle navate laterali si trovano affreschi e statue raffiguranti San Francesco, S. Antonio e S. Pasquale. Nel 1893 fu costruito l'organo a canne (Casimiro Allieri di Bergamo) recentemente restaurato. Built in the 16th century and preserves the ancient Latin ritual.

Chiesa di S.Nicola - San Nicolo di Mira - Byzantine Catholic Church

Donata nel 1520 dal conte Cardona Peralta ai profughi albanesi, fu costruita sul luogo in cui esisteva una chiesetta dedicata a Maria SS. Annunziata e San Nicola. Venne ampliata e adattata alle esigenze del rito bizantino con iconostasi, a tre navate con altari laterali. Danneggiata gravemente durante il terremoto del 1968 fu successivamente restaurata. La facciata si presente in pietra.

If you visit, there is a 17th century chapel in that church dedicated to St. Joseph on which there is a plaque commemorating dedicated supporting families, like the Clesi family. In centuries past, many families became "patrons" of chapels in their home churches as a way of supporting the church/parish and commemorating their loved ones. In the back of the church of San Nicolo di Mira in Contessa, just above the entrance door, is a large coat of arms of the Kastriot family, Scanderbeg's family. There is a crypt under this church where many of the earliest burials in Contessa took place. Of course, until circa 1700, there was no Roman Catholic Church in Contessa, so the church of San Nicolo di Mira was the central church of the town.
